  1. We still have areas of prep that we need to work on, but I think I have always had a bit of a “what if” or “just in case” mentality.

Nice job getting the wills going… it took us over a year after our son was born to finalize ours (gulp), but having that in place is a huge relief!

    • I’m not sure we will ever figure out the guardianship part. But we at least want the other pieces nailed down. I got some good advice from other parents that said at least start one and you can always revise or beef it up later.

  2. Thanks so much for sharing Penny, and for joining in the chain! I think it’s perfectly normal that most of us are unprepared for an emergency. We’re so focused on our day-to-day lives and the worries that we have there, that we don’t think about the black swan events. I’m glad to see that you’re taking steps to better prepare-so am I! I’m working on my “to-do” list this weekend. One big thing I did was bought a hard drive for all my photos. Frankly if my home burned to the ground the photos are the only things I would be devasted over. Everything else can be replaced. So I’m going to take the 14 years of digital photos, put them on the hard drive, and put it in the safe deposit box.

    • That’s a great idea! I have all of our wedding photos and video on a hard drive. But it’s not in a safe deposit box (yet). I also backed everything up to Dropbox and Google Photos (and a lot of it is on my personal FB too). So I’ve at least got the photo thing down!

  3. A timely piece Penny. Winter is almost upon us and these days that will surely mean hard times for some parts of the country (who can tell anymore where the bad will happen.) Lots of good information here.
